Home tour: An immersion into the Mid-Century kitchen of the Drolet project

Today, we take you on a journey into a kitchen full of character. Located in a duplex in Montreal that was completely transformed by the addition of an upper floor, this complete renovation gave birth to a space where the client was able to express her creativity to the fullest. Passionate about textures, colors, and originality, she made bold choices to create a kitchen that stands out. Here, there's no room for anything ordinary: every element has been carefully considered to maximize functionality while reflecting her personality. Despite its compact size, this bright kitchen – bathed in natural light thanks to large windows – offers a logical and well-organized layout perfectly suited to her love for cooking. A true centerpiece of the home, it becomes a space for sharing unforgettable moments with family and friends.

The vibrant yellow acts as a common thread in this open space, setting the tone for the entire decor. With custom lacquered doors in her chosen Benjamin Moore color, our client enjoyed matching her light fixture with the kitchen cabinets. Additionally, the integration of a textured sideboard, crafted from IKEA cabinets, creates a visual link between the kitchen and the dining room while providing ample additional storage space.

In this unique kitchen, the vibrant yellow cabinets blend harmoniously with the walnut wood, striking a balance between modernity and vintage. The yellow velvet upholstery of the dining chairs echoes the kitchen's palette, enhancing visual cohesion. The terrazzo floor and textured materials, such as the wooden sideboard, contribute to the retro ambiance, adding elements typical of this distinctive style.

Walnut, with its rich variations and pronounced texture, brings a unique personality to a space. In this kitchen, the choice of this wood species was essential to embody the sought-after Mid-Century aesthetic. Additionally, the integration of extra storage at the back of the island, thanks to discreet Grip doors, offers a functional solution without compromising the elegance of the design.
