Installation

The installation of a Bokea project begins with the preparation of walls and surfaces, followed by the installation of IKEA® cabinets according to the instructions provided in the SEKTION® boxes. Once these steps are completed, you can install the Bokea fronts and panels according to the following recommendations.

Door installation

It's simple! Bokea doors fit perfectly with IKEA® cabinets and hinges. The formats used and the installation process are the same. Follow the steps in the installation guide included in the SEKTION cabinet boxes.

Good to know 💡

IKEA® hinges are installed in the designated holes on Bokea doors, following the instructions in the IKEA® guide. It is recommended to install the other part of the hinge on the cabinets before installing shelves and internal drawers.

Hinges adjustments

IKEA® hinges allow to adjust your doors in height and width for perfect alignment. Click on the right link according your hinge model.

Pro tip 🔨

For a project with wood fronts, after installing the cabinets and before installing the doors and drawer fronts, it is important to validate the wood pattern by placing the fronts on the floor, following the layout proposal provided by Bokea, following your plan as well as the numbered stickers corresponding to the item numbers on your invoice. This way, you can ensure the pattern arrangement and natural variation in wood shade are well coordinated.

Drawer front installation

It's simple! Bokea drawer fronts fit perfectly with IKEA® cabinets and MAXIMERA® drawer runners. The formats used and the installation process are the same. Follow the steps in the installation guide included in the MAXIMERA® drawer hardware boxes.

Good to know 💡

There is a specific orientation for installing the drawer front. The Bokea sticker indicates the side of the front that should face downward.

Panel installation

Finishing panels serve various purposes. They can be installed as end panels to conceal the sides of the cabinets, as fillers to bridge the gap between the cabinet and the wall, or even as shelves to create a custom cabinet.

Caution

All our wood finishing panels have two different veneer sides. One side comes from the same batch of wood as the ordered fronts, while the other side does not. To distinguish between them, please look for our "Bo" logo from the different batch's lower right corner of the veneer panel. This way, you can easily ensure that the correct side (without the logo) is visible during installation.
During installation, make sure you always have a finished edge strip in contact with the floor, to protect your panel and ensure it lasts longer. HDF should never be in direct contact with the floor.

Side panel

When your doors and drawer fronts are installed, you may notice that the sides of the IKEA® cabinets remain visible. It may not be noticeable when the cabinet is near a wall, but depending on its placement, it may not be aesthetically pleasing. In such cases, a finishing panel is used as an "end panel" to hide the side of the cabinet.

How to install? 🔨

The finishing panel is installed using screws from the inside of the cabinet, aligned with the front of the fronts. Be careful not to use screws that are too long!

Good to know 💡

It is always advisable to order a larger finishing panel and cut it to the precise dimensions on-site. Several factors can be overlooked or are beyond control, such as an uneven floor, a crooked ceiling, or a warped wall... the reality of renovations!

Filler

The filler is used to fill the space between a cabinet and a wall or ceiling, creating an integrated finish. It can be used between a base cabinet and a side wall or between the top of a wall cabinet and the ceiling. Additionally, it is advisable not to directly attach a cabinet to a wall, as it may compromise the opening of doors and drawers.

How to install? 🔨

Measure the space to be filled, then cut the finishing panel to the exact dimensions using a saw. Next, create a batten, or in other words, a "nailing support," to support the filler. This batten can be made in different ways and with different materials, depending on what you have on hand. You can create battens using pieces of wood or even with unused finishing panels.

Good to know 💡

Ordering a larger finishing panel and cutting it to the precise dimensions on-site is always preferable. Several elements can be overlooked or uncontrollable, such as an uneven floor, a crooked ceiling, or a warped wall... the reality of renovations!

Creating a custom cabinet

At Bokea, you can order custom-sized finishing panels. This option allows you to unleash your creativity and create storage solutions tailored to your needs. Whether you want to make a custom bookshelf, frame your coffee corner, or create a complete cabinet with your preferred material and finish, the possibilities are endless!

How to install? 🔨

The majority of the work should be done before installation. If the panels are ordered according to the exact measurements, cutting will not be necessary. Simply assemble the panels using screws or finishing nails, and you're good to go.

Good to know 💡

By purchasing our "Conversion to IKEA® plan" planning service, a designer will take care of the design and technical plan to facilitate the assembly of a custom cabinet.

Trim installation

Trims serve various purposes, such as concealing lighting units, electrical wires, or even outlets under wall cabinets. Some people also use them above cabinets as decorative moulding

How to install? 🔨

The trim is installed using screws from the inside of the cabinet. It is always better to pre-drill before using screws to avoid splitting or cracking the material. Be careful not to use screws that are too long!

Remember to take necessary precautions and wear personal protective equipment when handling power tools. If you are uncomfortable with cutting wood, it is recommended to seek assistance from a professional.

Kickplate installation

The IKEA® kickplate installation system is very innovative. The IKEA® kickplate for SEKTION® cabinets attaches to the cabinet legs using anchoring, allowing for easy removal and reinstallation. This system ensures easy access to the space under the cabinets for services like water and electricity. For this reason, we have decided to integrate our kickplate with their system.

How to install? 🔨

To install the Bokea kickplate, follow these steps:

Remember to take necessary precautions and wear personal protective equipment when handling power tools. If you are uncomfortable with cutting wood, it is recommended to seek assistance from a professional.

  1. Cut the Bokea baseboard and the IKEA® baseboard to the desired length.

  2. Identify the side of the Bo baseboard to be hidden, marked with the "Bo" logo, and place the other side (without the logo) on a flat surface.

  3. Place the IKEA® baseboard on top of the Bokea baseboard, ensuring that the back of the baseboard (where the attachments are installed to secure it to the cabinet legs) remains visible.

  4. Use the screws provided by Bokea to screw the IKEA® baseboard onto the Bokea baseboard. We recommend using at least one screw at each end and one screw every 24 inches.

  5. Install your Bokea+IKEA® baseboard just like an IKEA® baseboard!

Floating shelf installation

Our partnership with the floating shelf support company, Hovr, allows us to offer the best floating shelves on the market. Additionally, the installation process is straightforward.

How to install? 🔨

Hovr has created a series of informative videos on installing their floating shelf support. Fortunately, we have done a lot of the work for you. Here are the steps to remember to start the installation correctly.

  1. Choose the final orientation for installation. Depending on the height of the shelf, either the underside or the top side will be more visible. It's important to choose the orientation that is most aesthetically pleasing.

  2. Once the orientation is chosen, install the "female" support on the shelf. CAUTION! Pre-drilling the shelf using the provided drill bit (¼") is crucial before installing the screws.

  3. Screw one screw into each hole of the "female" support.

  4. For the installation of the "male" support, which is mounted on the wall, follow Hovr's instructions based on the wall composition provided in this link. Please note that we only provide screws for installation on wooden stud walls.

Good to Know 💡

It's always better to order a finish panel that is larger and then cut it to the precise dimensions on site. There are several unforeseeable or uncontrollable factors that can be overlooked, such as an uneven floor, a skewed ceiling, a crooked wall, etc.

How to adjust the width of a floating shelf? 🔨

Since the shelf support is made of aluminum, cutting the shelf and its hardware to adjust the width to your desired dimension is possible. Here are the steps to follow for cutting the shelf width.

CAUTION! It is not possible to cut the shelf lengthwise to reduce its depth. Our shelves are only available in depths of 8, 10, 12, 14, and 16 inches.

  1. Take the necessary measurements to determine the desired width of the shelf.

  2. Mark the cutting lines using a pencil and a straight edge.

  3. Securely fasten the shelf to a stable work surface, preferably using clamps, to hold it in place.

  4. Cut along the marked lines using a circular saw or jigsaw. Work carefully with a new saw blade suitable for wood to achieve a precise cut.

Remember to take necessary precautions and wear personal protective equipment when handling power tools. If you are uncomfortable with cutting wood, it is recommended to seek assistance from a professional.

Maintenance and cleaning

To ensure the longevity of your Bokea fronts and panels and your quartz, Dekton or natural stone countertops, regular maintenance is recommended.
